Police in Como have opened an investigation into a fight at the Krudo Bar in Piazza Volta that left three Manchester United fans in hospital. The Como newspaper La Provincia reported that officers were called at about 1am, and that British officers are supporting the effort to identify those involved.

Reports in Italy said around ten Manchester United fans were involved. Footage shared on social media showed a confrontation inside the bar that grew after one fan threw two punches at an older man, the second of which knocked him to the floor. Other fans stood over him as he regained consciousness and tried to get up. A younger fan was then struck by three different older men before pushing one of them away, while two younger supporters hid behind a door.

One fan was heard in the footage shouting “what the f*** are you doing” as the fight escalated. Glass was shattered on the floor, tables and chairs were moved, and blood was visible after the confrontation.

Two ambulances and a medical car were sent to the scene. The three fans, aged 43, 45 and 49, were first treated there and then taken to Sant’Anna Hospital. They were later reported to have suffered only minor injuries.

The violence came before Manchester United’s Champions League match on Wednesday night against Como. United lost 4-1.
