Bruno Fernandes came back from Manchester United's 4-1 defeat in Como to find that burglars had targeted his home in Cheshire. The break-in took place on Wednesday evening while the United captain was in northern Italy.
Cheshire Police said officers were called at around 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 October after a report of suspicious activity at an address in the Alderley Park area of Nether Alderley. The caller reported three unknown men in the rear garden of a neighbouring property. According to The Sun's initial report, cited by the Daily Star, the men were masked, are believed to have climbed the rear garden fence where it meets woodland, and left with stolen items. The £4 million house has alarms, CCTV and an electric gate. Officers found no trace of the suspects, but confirmed a burglary and that a number of items had been stolen.
Detective Inspector David Jarvis, of Macclesfield Proactive CID, said the investigation is in its early stages and that police are committed to tracing those responsible. He asked anyone who was in the local area at the time and may have seen something suspicious to contact officers.
It remains unclear whether Fernandes' partner, Ana Pinho, and their two young children were at home during the break-in.
